Soon the car will be auctioned in Phoenix on the 17th i believe. Have not heard a lot of excitement or interest about it being sold. Curious how much this
year it will go for though....

Whaddya mean "Jim's car" did Dennis sell it once already or something?
As to low votes, I would venture a guess a majority of the current active board people here have no clue about Dennis' car, it's been "off the chat room radar" for years more or less! |

Wow!
The car looked amazing and as they say on BJ, "Well bought ,
well sold." I know no history on this car but couldn't one buy a turnkey "Bat" for around 60-80K?

One could if one were a diligent shopper and could wait the 1-2 years it takes to get one professionally built.
Most buyers at auction though don't want to wait so they may spend more...nature of the beast.

Jim's Car Sold Last Year
Wow!WillyDozier, thanks for the compliment on our car that we sold to Jim and Jim sold at Barrett Jackson last year. (See our website at: http://www.fiberglassfreaks.com). It was truly an amazing day, that's for sure! Interestingly, though, there are replicas that have sold for more. Another of our cars resold in Florida the previous year for $216,000, and a replica from another builder sold in England for $233,000! |

The great Yvonne Craig, will be there with the car this year, and its a Saturday auction not a friday and Ynonne and Scott S will drive the car on the stage.
This car is one of the only autographed cars out there that is signed by the cast, ( the car its self is sighned ). The car has great paint on it, and leather
seats. New motor and trans, the underside looks really nice to. Very well made car lot # is 1247.1

Last year Jim sold his Fiberglass Freaks batmobile for $185,000. It was sold on Friday.
This year Jim has his batmobile on Saturday. Better auction time so hopefully similar or better price. Is this one built by Mark also? I think I am going to make a quick trip again this year and be there for Friday and Saturday auctions. Thanks, Scott (Nebraska) |

No Mark R did not build this car Denis Stines built this car. Thats the great thing about these cars I have never seen two Batmobiles that were the same. There
all diffrent in one way or another, and I like that.

It looks like Jim's Batmobile, the one built by Dennis Stines, fetched $165K (including buyer's premium?) today at Barrett-Jackson! Congratulations to
both gentlemen.

Batmobile Replica Auctioned Today
|
There seems to be a decline in the prices being paid for replica Batmobiles. Mark has noted the $200,000+ prices that have been paid in the past. More
recently $185,000 was paid for a replica at another BJ auction. Today;s car went for $150,000. Is this simply a sign of the current economic times or has the
increased number of replicase for sale begun to drive down the price?

Dennis Stines told me once early in my Butts replica purchase that all those replica built cars that get built will make YOURS less exclusive as they become
more and more readily available. I do share that sentiment to some extent, but must acknowledge just how far Batmobile replica building has come in just the
last 4 years alone.
I personally think $150k for ANY replica is a hell of a price when you think of "kit cars" in general. With the exception of 1 Merceds Gullwing replica I can recall, there is no other higher selling kit car than a Batmobile. I also suspect that many of the SUPER-high priced sold non-Barris replicas in the recent past which sold for $185k-$216k, the buyers may have believed they were getting some piece of history. And in a way, they were. Except for the Klassix debacle, I haven't heard of any complaints from those who bought their replicas at auction so until and unless they would sell at auction again, I'd have to say the buyer believed they got a good price for their money at the time. Jim's car (Formerly Dennis' car) was built in a time when there was less information/sources available so while nice overall the higher end options were not as evident on that build, its biggest selling point was the most-autographed car which seemed to win some favor with the masses. Now factor in the lack luster economy and you still have no way to know for sure what any replica might bring. For example, the best investors with the $$'s to spend realize that this is a PERFECT buyer's market to make great investment purchases while the prices are a bit flat thanks to economic woes. There are some incredible deals to be had, many of which were evident in other Barrett-Jackson sales on the same date as Jim's car on Saturday. What's a turn-key worth these days? Probably the same price as it was 3 or 4 years ago. There may be a shorter line to get them, but they are no less desireable in my opinion. |
