Painful? I've always found the build rewarding myself in terms of accomplishment.

That's actually a good question........assuming any potential buyers are not purists about accuracy, then in that case I could see people liking either
option.
We have already seen that many times with scale models (flat vs. gloss paint). I think the car would look good either way---I personally would have to have gloss. You could always flock the car too!! |

If you want flat, go with it. You can always repaint it later if/when you decide to sell her.
I understand the withdrawal symptoms all too well, my friend...I've had nine cars leave my doors, and it doesn't get any easier with time! |

accurate? | |||||||||

The 66 is one car people love to touch, you just cant keep them from doing it; unless you barricade it and I really like watchin people enjoy the car, so the
car being a semi gloss would mean less polishing for sure! I got the dvd set of the old batman series on Christmas last year and have been watching the old
shows Im about half way done (I recomend you get it, its like watching a new tv show I dont remember most of them) but the car does not seem have a high shine
to it maybe its just dirty? Im not a purist by any means but all kind of things changed on that car during the show its hard to get it wrong! ('^^')

The production crew used a dulling spray on the car so the crew and lights didn't reflect in the gloss black paint, which gave the car a dirty/dull look.
Good point about fingerprints on gloss paint, but I was talking to my Harley dealer about some of the new bikes Harley has out in the last few years with a similar black satin paint. I have a gloss paint and have to clean and scrub bugs every single day I ride, so I was wondering how the black satin held up to that type of cleaning, and the dealer said you don't want to clean/rub much because it will "gloss" up the paint to a degree and can make the finish uneven. I don't know if that's true or not but it does make sense---that's similar to what we did in bodywork to make any paint glossier! (fine sanding and buffing) |

Paint job on the #1 | |||||||||

To the untrained eye, you could easily think that the #1 was glossy sometimes, flat black others, and even gunmetal gray from time to time. Some of it was
dust. Some of it was lighting. But Dan's right--a lot of it was dulling spray, designed to keep the lights from being reflected in the car.
Sometimes the entire passenger rear windshield was coated in the stuff!
PS: You're right, the series is a blast. I couldn't count the number of times I've watched all 120 episodes... |

Swap meet gold !!!!!! | |||||||||
|
A special idea came to me as I walked a swap meet here in Houston in search of treasure and came upon a 59 edsel antenna, some what pitted and obviously used
for years, what a find it was buried in a box of stuff I was compelled to search, only 5 bucks!!!!!! HHMMMM You know one of the questions asked when your out
in your car, is this the real one,(66 batmobile) alot of people dont get to ask that because they just get to see it flash by as you're driving, how great
these stories must be coming from true fans that believe they saw the real car, our beloved car, there is nothing like driving one, now with this said how cool
would it be to have one that looks like it has survived 40 years plus, as we all know on this web sight there is only one 66 batmobile the rest are all copies
no matter how great or how bad, but having a batmobile that does not look new but off the set, or just out of a 30 year storage container.Yea I know I think
too much and go against the grain, but I like to think most of the people on this board are the same. Just batty over a great old car! All this over an old
antenna at a swap meet. Anyway I gotta get out to the garage and get to work, its about 98 out there love that south Texas heat (NOT!!!!!!) (`^^`)

I know EXACTLY what you mean! When I was a kid I used to write fake car "for sale ads" as if Batman was selling the old 66 Bat since by now it was
just sitting outside behind his pole building in the backyard like so many other car treasures I was chasing back in the day.
It actually makes some sense, I mean Batman has no supernatural powers, he's just a "guy" like the rest of us, so sooner or later he'd build a new Batmobile and just park the old one out back. I always had hoped (as a kid) to someday to find the TV Batmobile for cheap in real life as happens with many "Star cars"....the Futura a prime example! Then when pics like these of the #5 came along, it was like a dream come true, although it is hard to see any bat in THIS bad of condition!
I actually could REALLY dig a "unrestored" vintage batmobile if done right, and that would be the key---done right-- but these days street rodders have so many tricks to put a new paint job on a car that looks amazingly vintage with proper patina, and suppliers make all kinds of rims and tires etc.....a creative guy I think could definately make a period-aged correct replica, that would be cool. Plus---who cares if people touch it then right?!! "Rat rod style!!" |
