What a beautiful day....temp in the low 70's and clear and dry. I took the car for a drive and to get some gas....and right after I pulled away from the station the car started chugging and eventually dying. I pulled over and got to work. First I took the fuel cap off thinking I may break a vacuum, but, no change.....next, I removed the fuel line to the filter.....then to the carb inlet ( filter was basically empty ) I would turn on the electrical, the pump was pumping because I could hear it ,but sounding like it was empty, and no fuel was pumping out of the open line. A passerby offered to suck on the fuel line and draw fuel thru manually, and such he did. After that I turned the electical back on , the pump was again pumping but this time fuel was coming thru the line. I reattached the line , put the air cleaner back on and drove home without further problem.........but I cant for the life of me understand why I seem to get these "intermittant" vapor lock " type chuggings or complete stallings.
I've been trying to diagnose this problem for a couple months, it's not easy to diagnose when it does not happen during every drive. Fuel pump was replaced in Oct when this problem began again after almost 3 years trouble free...............I may plan to replace the fuel line, from the pump to the engine top....re-route it when able to avoid "really hot " spots, and reduce the number of connecting spots ( fewer clamps=fewer possible leaks and blockage points)

Same day...same place.......the car looks much better sitting on these paver bricks .....I wish I had them for my driveway !
