And just to point out the Edsel speedo originally came on the 2, 3 & 4 Barris replics.

Wow, I wasn't aware of that little tidbit of information.
Great to know. I always thought the use of the Edsel Speedo had more to do with the convenience of it's similiar size and dome-like shape. |

Re: UK Batmobile build.

The #3 doesn't have the Edsel speedo any more. I wonder when they got rid of it? I saw it in 1992, and it wasn't on the car at that time.
Deusy, the Edsel speedo numbered portion is an almost identical replica of the compass innards with the N, S, E, and W lettering. However, the dome isn't correct because the Edsel's is a little flatter on top than what was on the #1. |

Re: UK Batmobile build.

Thankyou Mark. Is anyone willing to send me a letter with a template in paper/cardboard of the plates that stick out from the dash backing panel that the sliding roller shutters slide on?
Also I would appreciate it if someone is willing to send a DVD/tape of a build tape. I can pre pay via Pay Pal or what for either or both of the above.? To date I have not received one even though I have paid for it via my English friend amongst other things? |

Re: UK Batmobile build.

I could very well be wrong, but other than Don Currie at one time, I don't honestly know that there is a "real" build tape in exsistance.
(I haven't ever seen Don's personally either) And since literally every batmobile is a unique build, a tape would be a guide at best but probably just a guide to whoever filmed it's own style of build technique----which could be very good, could be very bad too. If you do find one you think is worth watching please post details here on the site so we can check it out too! Probably your best bet is to post specific questions here, most seem to get great answers! |

Speaking for Dons tapes- they are very helpful! just remember he`s not an actor- but still pretty good. he covers the hood , trunk and doors and alot of other stuff to do with the build. all the builds are different in alot of ways, but this gives you alot of ideas.

Where is the number one???
|
My son is in LA at present. I e-mailed the Petersen prior to his arrival asking if he could take some close up pictures, they did not reply. He is there, in the
Peterson now as I type and he says even the security guards say they have not seen the car for a few weeks. Any ideas? Update on our build........ Have just
completed mold frame and now ready to start next week. Temps here are low so may hold back. Regards, Frank.

If you are talking about the #1 Batmobile at Peterson, it has been well discussed here that it has been moved to Barris' shop waaaay back when Hot wheels
scanned it with a laser and it has remained at Barris' shop ever since.
At least that's the info I am aware of, it hasn't been at peterson for a long time and I haven't heard if it will return or not? Barris' shop is maybe a 45mn drive from Peterson...but I can't promise you'll get to see the car there either unfortunately. |

Number One Beacon Cage | ||
|
Hi all,
could someone kindly let me know the exact measurements of the number one beacon cage? Mark, you and others had the opportunity to measure the original did you measure the beacon? There was so little mentioned about measurements on the latest DVD, which was great by the way! How about sharing the latest info on measurements on another DVD, I'll buy? Was there 12 slats or less? Height, bottom dia: top dia: was it made of aluminum, stainless, what ever and or painted silver? I do wish to be as accurate as possible, any help? I am trying to determine what size beacon to use so the inside diameters also would assist no end. The moulds are coming on well I have made repairs and modified a great deal should be ready to do a moulding soon. |

Try this page for the info. I personally did not measure the beacon on the #1 since it is
not the correct design or shape compared to the original.

The #1 | ||
|
Deusy, so much of the #1 was dismantled at the end of the show that almost any measurement today of any parts is useless (as Eric mentioned). Sadly, the
beacon, antennae, center console, batbeam, seat covers, gear shift indicator lights, turnsignal indicator lights, five light flasher, detectascope, all
dashboard labels, triple rocket tubes, rocket exhaust tube, parachute packs, and rear antenna on the car today are not original to the car during the show.

Beacon cage and original dimensions.
|
Ah, thank you for that Mark. As we are setting this 66 car up as a business here in the United Kingdom I desire to make our cars as accurate as possible. This
is why we have spent endless hours on mods, repairs and alterations to the splash moulds we have.We will have to make a new mould at a later date. Many hours
have been spent on pictures of the original number one Batmobile to this end.I know what other builders have and are going through! We would rather take more
time on this than just knock a car out. .Thank you once again.,all the best,Frank.

Research | ||
|
You're most welcome.
Regarding accuracy research, if the photo is black and white it is probably of the #1 car at the time of the show. If the picture is in color, there is less than a 25% chance that it is the #1 from the time of the show. Beware that even the #1 looked as bad as any of the Barris replicas during the mid-70's, with toys mounted on the arch, dash, and center console. Good luck! |

Have cut out most the rear panel and re- modeled, done the same with the front. My daughter is well involved with this project and a great helper! Yes Mark I am looking at the black and white pictures though there are some late B and W of a later build that caught me for a moment. Thanks Mark and Don who has been a great support to me. |

Some top end work still being improved, please take no notice of the lens just a rough one I used for the pictures.Getting sharp edges for the cage I found a
real pain but it works nicely. Will fabricate a metal cage later.
