Hello Folks,
This is the final result for the steering wheel minus the text over the speedometer and other identification for the the lights, they are on the glass that cover it and it is very difficult to take a good photo with the cover on. So here it is.
I did try to take a photo with the led ON but today I do not have it with the camera ! JC teck... |

Now that is really nice. What would've been cool, if the bat-symbol actually "glowed" in yellow too & the two pod switches controlled the
steering wheel lights. |

Hy Eric,
The Switch on the pods and leds flashing inside + the yellow light around the Bat-logo... DONE ! To give you an idea of the size the Futura is a 1:64. That was fun... JC Teck... |

Steering is looking great! What happened to the colored LEDs shown in earlier photos?

Hello Fanofbats,
My first try had to many colors and the leds where too large, so this one for me is less distracting and more in scale. And the chrome is much better on this one. That is why... JC Teck... |

JC Tech,
Are you able to chrome plate your own items, or do you have to send them out to a service to do it. Just curious how long it takes and if it is cost prohibitive. On your special 1/4 scale project, it is certainly well worth whatever it takes or costs. Still very envious! |

Just curious, since companies like Tamiya make transparent acrylic paints, you could "tint" the yellow LEDs and easily come up with orange and green
colors, and maybe using their red and blue come up with variations that might look close to what you had before.

Hello Fanofbats,
For plating or painting chrome, I am actually looking at those products from Spectra chrome : http://www.sprayonchrome.com/index2.html There is a couple of places in montreal where they can plate plastic but there is specialists in USA like Chromeozone Plating in Connecticut and that can be another option. I want to keep the color option for the leds i will use on the top of the dash next to the compas like the original futura and keep the inside of the steering less busy.
If you look closely you will notice that the inside area of the original steering was meant to included a Bat symbol from the start ! LOL ! JC Teck... Jean Carl

I never noticed before, but in the bottom pic of the Futura wheel it shows 36 miles on the odometer.....I wonder how many miles it had up to the point that
Barris started converting it to the Batmobile?
Back on topic---any idea when you would estimate this Batmobile model to hopefully be 100% complete and finished? No rush, I am enjoing every step of the process!! |

JC Tech,
The Spectra Chrome looks promising, but for one single 1/18 Batmobile, a bit cost prohibitive. I heard good things about another US plastic chrome plating service called Chrome Tech. I'm going to call them tomorrow and find out if they have different "colors" or "shades" of chrome they can apply. Fortunately, they cater to the modeling community, and can take small orders. I wonder if any of our Futura experts know what color(s) the lights in the Futura steering where? Since they appear to be warning lights, I wonder if they were all red (but only when illuminated)? |

Hello Fanofbats,
Let me know about Chrome Tech... I am interested. Since I had no color photos from that time "1955" I really do not know what color was used inside it ! There is a good chance that they were all red. Thanks, JC Teck... Jean Carl |

This is all I know...
Warning lights for fuel (green with a full tank, amber colored with a half tank and red when the supply is low), battery, temperature and high-beam indicator. The lower part of the binnacle contains the speedometer, tachometer and odometer. |

Fantastic work on your 1/4 Bat! Wow--truly amazing.
Call Spectrachrome and ask for Burt. Send him a photo of your item and the measurements. He should be able to ballpark a quotation to chrome it for you. He is top notch. |
