OUR CAR IS:
Based on the FAMOUS Futura in the Woods sculpt made by Marty M. (from blueprints and photos given to him by Ford), our Modified 1955 Lincoln Futuras are considered 97% accurate by experts that have seen our cars in person.
Perfect? No, but we are working on improving our cars every single build. We don't "rest on our laurels." With thousands of photographs of the original car, the three Barris replicars, and the #5 car, as well as all of the replicas made since, the research that goes into our cars is off the scale. I used an opaque projector to scale up actual pictures of the #1 car to make the modifications to our Futura replica body, just like Barris did in 1965.
So where is our car inaccurate? Our wings are 3/4" narrower than the Bob Butts body. And our car is 2" longer than the Bob Butts body. Even with that in mind, I think our cars are STILL about 2" too SHORT. Is it a big deal? Our customers appreciate having the extra leg room, because most of the replicars have NONE.
With that in mind, I am CONVINCED that the #1 Batmobile is longer than the Bob Butts body. Question: How is it that the #1 had the seats indented in the rear package tray nearly seven inches, yet STILL had room for the air conditioning vents? The Bob Butts body does not. I say Barris shortened the #4 car, or Bob shortened his body. You can draw your own conclusion.
Back to our car:
Our bodies are carefully made with seven handlaid fiberglass layers (three 1 ounce and four 1.5 ounce), making the bodies 3/8" thick. This extra strength is really appreciated by our customers that are all too familiar with thin fiberglass bodies.
Accuracy? We surge ahead most of our competition easily:
Our wheel wells are perfectly even, and don't "tip in" two full inches. Our flares don't curve between the doors and the rear wheel flares. Our headlights are deeply indented. Our tail lights are deeply indented. Our hood turnsignal leading edges are correctly shaped instead of flat. Our hood nose is pointed instead of round. Our grille openings are deep, and our grille is correctly-sized to match the #1 car, and is mounted with machine screws into body panel brackets instead of zip ties.
Here are some other cool features:
The most accurate center console on the market. The edges of the console are rounded, just like the Futura, and the custom-milled aluminum grille is gorgeous and devoid of misaligned holes and ugly screws (and perfectly even on the ends, too)!
We have the most accurate rocket exhaust tube on the market. The flame is real, and is orange/red, just like on the show. You can see it in daylight, too! The aluminum ring with the 40 c channel pieces that we cut and polish in our shop, is TIG welded so you don't have nasty pop rivets showing. And we use a custom steel pipe for the exhaust proper instead of a paint thinner can, so there are no sharp edges for little hands to find.
We have the most accurate dashboards on the market. Traced from the original car, the metal bulkhead D shape is correctly welded to the dashboard. Our five dash doors slide easily on the tracks, with no worries about the back dash guides falling off because all 110 slats are solid, slotted pieces. The dashboard ends and windshield posts mimic the Futura perfectly, too. On some cars, the undersides of the windshield posts aren't even painted, let alone accurate. We are the ONLY ones to offer this detail (until Nagrom finishes his and blows us away!).
Our seats are indented into the rear package tray, just like the #1, giving plenty of leg room.
We use a LOT of steel in our cars, to make sure that you have metal wheel tubs, and the front end is structurally attached to the rest of the car with steel. Our doors are completely removeable and serviceable, and freely swing without rubbing paint off the rocker panels.
We give you a REAL $20,000 paint job, with the door, hood and trunk edges completely edged in black. We paint six coats of clear for an incredible shine. I personally spend six hours masking the car to make sure the flourescent neon red paint striping is perfectly even from the front to the back of the car. We wetsand the car to perfection before buffing to make sure it's the best it can be.
We build ONLY Modified 1955 Lincoln Futuras, so we're not distracted by dozens of other projects. We build the cars in an average of five MONTHS.
Experience? I built my first car when I was 17 in 1983.
Our mechanics and bodymen are professionals, culled from GM, Chrylser, and Ford, and from the best bodyshops in town. We have a laid-back atomosphere that makes it a JOY to come to work. What better job can you have if you love the car than to build them?
I regularly update my customers with DAILY updates about the progress of their car. I want them to feel a part of the build process, and to share the excitement of making the most beautiful car in the world for their enjoyment.
With recommendations from the Bob Johnson/Kevin Patnode kit builders, as well as from friendly competitor Don Currie AND Doug Hines, you are in safe hands. For more information, call me at 574-722-3237.
Whoever you build with, meet and talk with the builders, rather than just salespeople. It is really important to get the FACTS before making your decision.
I wish you well on your hunt for your own Modified 1955 Lincoln Futura!
