Canopy frames | ||
|
Thanks Mnaw2, the frames are made from 16 gauge stainless steel, hand formed, welded, grinded and polished to fit my specific car.
The canopies were bought from Bob Johnson in Florida and are made for his "Butts originating" kit. FYI...The rear canopy does not come to 2 narrow points like the #1. Most Butts' rear canopy decks are are incorrect with respect to this detail. I know that Doug Hines makes excellent 1/4" canopies that are more in line with the #1 detail, but they will be difficult to marry up to a Butts mold. (I know, I tried them!) As far as making them available, they are just as available to you as they were to me....... My canopy trim guy would be happy to make you a set of moldings for about 10% of that $64,000 question and at that price they should really be made right on YOUR car! If you want something simple and more economical, I recommend the 1" plastic chromed (flexible and adhesive backed) body side molding. It's a nice alternative to "one off" custom work and it won't wipe out of the kids' College Fund. What kit are you buying and are you planning on doing the building? Where are you located?.... Keep asking away and we'll all try to help you the best that we can, Paul |

Asking away | ||
|
Thank You for you answer, and being so quick. My name is Mike and I'm from New Jersey. I'm going to take this on myself, I have decided to go with a
Doug Hines kit.
I have talked to a few very nice people on here, Don C, Mark Racop, Bob Johnson, and of course Doug Hines. All very nice, professional, and courteous. I was given the opportunity to meet johnwb88, and see his build. Great guy, very knowledgeable. And the car very impressive, His car was not complete. But, when I pulled up to his house and saw it there, it was overwhelming. You need to know I have only seen one bat-mobile in my life, it was the touring car in the early 1970's. I may add that the car ,and the bat cycle that was there were in very poor condition, even being 13 I recognized that it was not the real McCoy. Later this month I plan on formally introducing myself on here, and show off my 1979 4 door town car, that I towed home from Massachusetts. I will begin the process of removing the body from the chassis a give blow by blow pictures. I will be "asking away" thank you very much. Some pics of you fabercating the molding would be nice. Any way, thanks again I look forward to more of your build, and picking your brain. Mike Latley I have been talking to some in the know on here in an effort to line up some of the parts that are not included in my purchase. IE. beacon and cage, moldings (ha ha). steering wheel, column cover, grills, consol, detect-a-scope ect. ect. |

Yah you have a lot of question asking to be doing...the good news is that these days you actually have "options" for most parts and there are some
nice things out there!
The chrome parts though are usually the hardest and not much is readily available if you want 100% of the Futura and Bat chrome, but I feel that even that will be changing in the near future also. Best of luck with the build!

LOVE that high end attention to detail

I see that Gerry has some "blueprints" hanging on the wall of the shop to inspire the proper curvature for the canopies, always a good idea!

There is nothing better than to see hand craftsmanship like this when working in metal, truely an art and should look outstanding when finished! |

Almost 2 years now! | ||

Thanks Eric,
Tom has "set the bar" so high that it's very flattering to reach it every now and then!
It's been almost 2 years since I started my Bat and I'm just about ready for paint. A few more details to complete before however....

MOTORIZED? THAT'S A FIRST | ||

Very ingenious Paul.
Is it as loud tho' as it sounds in the video? Interestingly the sound in your garage made me think of the "bat turbine whine" when the car is slowing to a stop in the show. Neat touch! |
