For everyone else, you can't see it in the videos, but the last door (left of the steering wheel) also opens in tandem with the four you see here. Only drawback is that all doors either open or close at once, but that's okay right? I'm very happy that my game plan for automated doors has finally been "put into motion"!!! I will divulge the engineering and mechanics once I have it all complete and working with the proper switches�and fail-safe devices. It may not be�"original", but its definitely "Batman"!!!!....remember the shields on the Keaton car? Well, my dash doors are meant to be a�tamper proof security feature as well (they�will also have a remote key operation). I've got a couple more "automated" gadgets�to show you�guys� in the next few weeks; hope you get a kick out of them as well.... � ��

Eric, hope the above post answers your question? Before I give away too much, I will tell you that the door, left of the wheel operates with a single actuator and the other four doors are linked to two actuators. I pondered an actuator per door (so they could be operated independently), but that's at least another $400, more work and some added headaches to control/syncronize the lot.... "ALL or nothing it is!"

Spectators will be blown away! Do you have it rigged so that if the dash doors happen to be open when you shut off the car, they would automatically close? That would be a cool feature just to fake out fans, you can speak into your car remote key fob (as you press the kill button) and say something like: "Secure vehicle" and it shuts off and the doors all close seemingly automatically! That Futura wheel is looking GREAT so far, this is a fun one to watch for sure!

So far, I've been fortunate enough to manage the electrical hook ups without a rocket scientist's help, LOL. The detect-a-scope light box was an easy project.... 32 small LED's arranged on a plastic board and wired to random light flasher I bought on Ebay for 30 bucks. I actually did not know what to expect in terms of the flash pattern when I bought it, but was pleased at the result. It's tedious work, but not difficult. It's been fun hunting down parts from Ebay that help pull things together without breaking the Bank. I bought this great looking Nos gauge for 5 bucks that is pretty darn close to the original fire extinguisher gauge... The face is completely different, but it looks good anyway! Dan, your transmitter "talk to" when hitting the remote close button made me laugh. I don't know if I have it in me to ever pull this "fake maneuver", but I can see the scene clearly in my mind (we'll see...). The dash opens and closes with the remote control or manually; I'm not planning on rigging it up to close when turning ignition off since there are components (like the computer and pop up screens) that need their own post shut down sequence to occur before the doors can be shut. More on the dash and wheel soon....

Posts: 458 (02/12/09 3:20 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I decided to cover my console, upper dash, rear deck, inner door panels and kick plates with "SEM" textured paint system rather than vinyl or leather. I chose a fine texture and satin clear top coat. I was trying to achieve a factory " rigid plastic" look and so far, I'm pleased. Seems to be quite durable too! Shines up great with Armorall protectant. Courtesy light will be functional and fire extinguisher bracket is fully secured.

Your center console came out great looking for the satin finish-------but personally it makes me think of the newer cars with all the el-cheapo plastic that tends to cheapen the quality generally. That said, your details are SUCH high end that a spray-finish vs the leather look won't even be missed by the masses. As you'll soon discover, people are SO enamoured with Batmobiles they get lost in the dream and don't really appreciate some of the details that only us Bat-fanatics really enjoy. I do think your work is excellent and I love to watch your latest additions. I dig that lamp you made for the center domelite above the fire extinguisher. As I watch the current builds coming out now with all this creativity, one of the touches I wished I had implemented at the time was to have a red-colored laser hard-wired up inside the headlight opening (out of view). Then with the touch of a switch, you could activate a red Bat-beam that would be INTENSE looking at night (as long as its not shining into the eyes of a fan, lol). Another Bat-implement that would be cool is electrically controlled jacks mounted on the frame rails of the car. If you have a flat in your bat, or want to zip a wheel off to make sure your center Bat spinners are secure, while parked you hit one switch and shazaam your car magically "lifts" to accomodate that removal of your wheel. Keep up the great work. At this pace you may just be in your car by summer's end

Great job, sir. I have found the textured paint to be terrific and actually prefer it to the leather to eliminate seams, thickness issues of the leather for fit and finish, etc. Holy Double Vision, See Two Cars On the Highway!

I've ordered a used "a/c flap control motor" to see if that works and as a last resort, I can always rig up a small linear actuator. (1 1/2" - 2" stroke) It was a toss up between "Bat-chutes" or "Rocket-tubes" for this compartment.... decided to put rocket tube launcher (with "arming sequence") in that last dash compartment along with a few more props. Here's the emergency brake release .... (I also made up a stainless steel bezel to be added after paint) BTW, my original Lincoln emergency brake set up fit great..... even with the large foot well side panels I added. (My donor was a 1977 Continental) "somethings borrowed, somethings new"....

Dash door layout: 4 Compartment doors (18 1/2" slats per door) attach to a 1" wide flat bar equipped with 2 actuator brackets. Once everything gets polished (bar and slats are stainless steel), I'll tape the bottom of the slats together and attach the assembly to the plastic doors. Still working on the steering wheel and other components... I hope to start wiring by end of March (have to paint underside and inner panels first); got to catch up to JB-88 again!!!

You could always install a real working odometer somewhere else not visible to track miles. Man, I should really just build a Bat myself, so many things that would be fun to try!! The Futura wheel is looking sharp, easily one of my all time favorite items on the #1 car back in the day. Are your 2 spokes from the hub to the outer ring and also the 2 signal pod bodies all metal?

I've been pondering this very thing for a while and didn't think of that one, perfect! Unfortunately the steering wheel components will not be functional. I saved the time and effort going the "all show and no go" route. Steering wheel, hub and spokes are entirely made of steel. Signal pods will be made from resin cast after I mold this buck. (I'm waiting for the right toggle switch to integrate into the pod before molding it). The bezel was machined from aluminum and will be chromed later (and glued to the pod as a 2 pc assembly). BTW, I'm your biggest supporter when it comes to saying "YOU, of all people on this board, need to build one of these"!!!

If you had any idea how many times and how close I have come....and now at this time how far out of reach that is, at least for the next year or two for sure. Frustrating to say the least, however like many others here we get by looking through pics of all the other builds, so I greatly appreciate the updates and new innovations! Sometimes I fear I post too much and it might be irritating to some, or that I may come across as obsessive about the car, but that's not the case, I am just a firm believer in never giving up on the dream, and so staying up to date and in contact with those lucky enough to be doing it is one easy and FREE step anyone can take! (P.S. I AM obsessive about '70-71 Hemi Dodge Challengers....if anybody wants to donate one to me like Don C is donating a Bat to Eric!! And I am EASY too.....all I really need is a decent body, numbers don't need to match, I can get a hemi and tranny later!!!) Back to Bat obsessions: I did notice the 2 spokes from hub to outer ring were welded to the hub and the heat mark looks like the full width of the spoke got welded. So did you overlap some metal to the spoke to get the "flare" at the hub, or did you just run some weld beads and grind to shape? (I'm betting you added metal based on your other fine efforts!) There's the problem..... you've lost touch with reality! May I suggest you move to Hollywood (ride that bike all year round); rent vs buy a place so you can buy that Batmobile and steal the frickin Hemi Challenger from someone that won't miss it! You just need a more realistic plan. Back to Bat stuff..... Steering wheel spokes were wrapped in formed sheet metal,welded and complimented with lots of grinding.
