And a vintage shot of Nate's with windshields painted silver, he went on to do more mods and molding later. It was a sweet little ride and looked really
cool next to his 1:1 car!

To the best of my knowledge, they all originated from this ebay auction back in the day, including the one Nate got. I saved the info because I wanted one
myself BADLY but in the end didn't have the cash with my new baby daughter at the time.

Dan, thanks for sharing that listing (from 8 years ago!). The heading says "Vintage Pedal Cars" so I wonder if this mold was made by someone many
years before?
It was an interesting piece and a quick project to add to the toy display. I'm really looking forward to seeing if JC Tech gets his 1/4 Bat into production....now that's a work of art!!! Well back to the 1:1.... got to keep sanding, sanding and sanding some more.... It takes soooooo long when we're only at it 1/2 a day a week. (probably because I hate the dust thing) It's easy to find other things to do when you don't enjoy a certain stage of the project; And it's difficult to get motivated right now, but hopefully my cousin will put in a few weekends for me this month (hint, hint... )

Paul, put a respirator on and put some dust in the air! Hop to it, mister! Your car has come so far and is looking so good to let dust slow you down.
Stop reading this. Go out to the garage and get back to work, slacker! ;) Oh, wait. If you stopped reading this, you won't see these last two or three sentences, will you? Much success, my good man. |

Paul,
(sorry for the delayed response!!) That vintage bat body ebay auction, I remember looking at other auctions this guy had for more of the bodies, and unless my memory is wrong, they were all from amusement park kiddie rides. He had a bunch of them in various stages of condition. He also had "I think" what he thought was the mold, or perhaps the original cast car body, or possibly he just had a REALLY nice condition one that never got used also. But either way the bodies apparently were made for, and then actually used as, amusement park kiddie rides until he got them and sold them off. Funny I never did see a Batmobile or Futura kiddie ride ever in my childhood despite riding/driving ANY car based ride I could find in my youth! I keep hoping our great 1:1 Bat shell makers here will someday offer really neat Batmobile pedal car/go kart bodies for kids and adults on budgets to build and enjoy for fun!

I tried FOREVER to find belts of that variety. Then it hit me to just paint a stripe down a red or neon orange colored one if I really wanted some.
No one seemed to have that web material that I could find. Very nice looking, Sir! PM me about the door sills when you can as I'm still interested. Thanks! Chris |

Seats! | ||
|
Early on in the planning stages, I had an idea to use a factory production seat (one with some upper chrome trim) for practical reasons rather than a replica Futura seat. I thought I could tweek the seats enough to look somewhat similar and this is the result:
"One more step closer to the FINISH LINE!" |

My oh my...lookin' great my friend!
I like your lathe work... Those seats frames look familiar but I don't think they're T Bird frames...? I can relate to the seat issue...sitting on a sculpted seat vs sitting on more comfortable padded seat has its drawbacks..or aching back

hey at least you got seats.....I have....ummm.....hmmm.....nothing!
I think those seats will do just fine, really cool, nice to see finishing touches creeping into the project!

Paul...
Love the seats...They are a really convicing choice. Hey...When you get a moment, can you take some close-ups of your canopy mounts and trim moldings? I would love to see their profile and how you engineered them. Take care |

Thanks guys, seat frames are modified (sectioned) 65 Impala SS front bucket seats. Dan, I wouldn't say you have nothing....I'll bet you that Motorcycle
seat of yours is pretty comfy?!?
Zach, I'll grab some good shots of the molding profile for you right after the weekend; I might even have a shot of the dies that were used to bang them out somewhere. For now, here's a couple of details of how I (dry) mounted the canopies. Final install will include a polycarbonate adhesive to the deck.
Steel tabs were welded in to the steel structure below the fiberglass decks. FRont and rear canopies are mounted pretty much the same way (bolts through the lower tabs at each corner and bolts through the arch at the top center sections) I'm going to be using nylon bolts just to be safe! Once I got the decks level and the canopies cut/ground down to sit flush, I taped up the lower portions of the canopies and applied mold release so I could create a lower collar of sort. In planning to glue them down, I wanted as much surface contact as possible so I used fiberglass filler to fill in any gaps at the deck and on the inside, I made up a profiled spreader to create a bead on the inner deck that looks like a rubber gasket seal.
All the steel tabs are hidden behind the trim moldings and I have blacked out (painted black) about 1" on the perimeter of each canopy to prevent seeing the glue and back side of the moldings. Hope this helps for now... |

...yah, the bike seat I can't complain about that's for sure!
The canopy trim looks like it will be really impressive on the finished car, will your canopies be removable if needed? (I'm in a rush here at work, didn't have time to fully absorb the mount system)

Sans suit Mr. C!!! | ||

Going to try and work on wiring and dropping in the drivetrain over the next while.
Dan, I would like to say Canopies will be removable, but I want to glue them to the decks for added strength. Lets just hope I never have to, LOL! |
