Nice pics and progress!
As a Classic Ford Truck collector, I always love pics like this where the full, uncut steering wheel is in place, since the Edsel wheel is essentially the same as the vintage Ford Trucks, it makes it look like you began with a school bus for a base vehicle or something! (I've spent a lot of money buying those huge steering wheels over the years!) I bought one just last year for my 67 SHortbox and am saving the old one for the day I get my Batmobile----one part I can check off the list I guess! |

Looks nice Tom!!
Since you now have your own thread can you give us the details on your build. Like--who you purchased your kit from, when you started your build, chassis/engine manufacturer, etc, etc. Thanks! |

Hey Tom,
The car looks great, and your shop looks as clean as a hospital operating room ! Thise slats on the roll top dash look very nice. Please, more pics whenever you get the chance. I see something in your shop I could use right now...that sand blasting box ! Oh...I want to add.......as much as I like the gloss black paint jobs on our BatCars I really like the flat black/grey look as seen in these early stage pics. I guess it just means that ALL BatCar's look great painted, primed , OR stripped ! ( Thats a perfect color for an 89 ) |

Great progress Tom, everything looks good, is that a Mark Racop role-top? Are your doors swinging?

It isn't one of my roll tops, but it's certainly just as good (who, knows--perhaps better?)!
Congrats, Tom! Your car is looking great. |

Thanks for everyone's comments. Let me see if I can answer some of the questions
- The body is a very early Currie body. I bought it second hand from an add in the local 'Auto Locator' - The frame is a 73 Lincoln that only had 33k miles on it. The drivetrain is all factory including the 460, trans, 9" rear, etc. - The steering wheel and column came from a 64 Galaxy. I started working on this car about 3 years ago this month and I looked at a lot of Barris' replicas pictures early on. That's why I used the Galaxy steering wheel and the early Mustang shifter. I also built my console after the one that is in the #1 car today. That was before I knew better and really spent a lot time on this forum. - Here is where I got some of my parts: the windshields are from Doug H., the antenna radar is from Morgan, the bat ram level is from John B., the grill material is from Don C. - As for the dash, I made it from scracth. Unfortunately it's not a roll top but I made to look like a roll top. I cut strips of .090 aluminum 5/16" as per the dimensions posted on this board. I had so much time into it that I decided to finish it. I designed the dash so that it could be easily removed by unbolting it. So I could still upgrade it to a roll top in the future. - The doors will swing but I only worked on the passenger door. I still have to cut out the driver side door. I used 57 Chevy hinges. - You can check out the latest progress on the car by going to www.millardperformance.com and clicking on the bat. I upload pictures just about once a week. I am an electrical engineer by trade so I only work on the car after hours. I'm also in the process of restoring a 55 Brockway with my Dad so I split my time between these two projects. In a lot of the batmobile pictures you can see glimpes of the frame and cab. |

What did you use for your dashboard guides, Tom? They look really shiny!
We used steel and had the guides chromed. They're very nice, but what a pain to work around! |

Re: Tom M.'s Batmobile in PA | ||

Hi Mark...
I used stainless steel (maybe 16ga?) for the guides. You're right, it hards to work around chrome and stainless and not scratch it! Tom |

Hi John...
I took a break for a while to work on my 1955 155W Brockway that I'm restoring. Should be starting back on the car next week. Tom ![]()

Nice Truck!
Here's a photo of my Bathauler when needed for long journeys; And, here's how it rescued me on the day of my crash: My hope is to enclose the rear and paint it with more of a bat-theme etc.

I just picked up an enclosed trailer so I decided to trailer my car over to a local car show a few weeks back. It's not even close to being done, but I figured people would enjoy it regardless. I wanted to stay low key about it so I parked the car, signed the registration card 'Bruce Wayne from Gotham City' and walked away for the whole day. Needless to say, by the end of the day I was being interviewed by a PBS station from out in Pittsburgh and wound up with a trophy. It's amazing how much people really enjoy these cars...

Hey Tom!
Long time no hear... Car is a people magnet no matter how incomplete. I wanted to also say thanks for posting your build pics on the Millard Performance website. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the your build evolution (I've heard so many good things about it) and after waiting soooo long, I was not disappointed. I'll post some questions later, but for now I wanted to ask what the "control box" (with the bat decal on it) was for? Flashing light controller? Awesome work so far, please share the canopy frame solution when you get there. Take care, Paul PS Dakota digital controller pic made me smile |
