Master Movie Figures |

Why did Mattel pull all of these figures from retailers shelves? The price on Evilbay ( which I think is quit a hilarious nickname) is freak-n Skyrocketing!
U-no, I've pretty much surrendered to the fact of not finding a 1966 Batmobile, of any scale at any Toys R Us, and electing to purchase from E-bay. Whats
up with these Figures?

They pulled them after a few weeks because someone at Mattel deemed them too 'scary' for kids. I was shocked and appalled the other night, when I saw
one sell for almost $150...for a figure that cost less than $12...but the shocking thing was that I only got $40 for mine
I'd imagine that after the movie opens, and the hype dies down, the prices will drop like the 1:64 Batmobile did. Maybe I should make hay while the sun shines... |

Lord Fogg,
Where did you hear this "too scray for kids" story? I am on alot of action figure boards and there was an "unofficial recall" of these figures which COULD be in-line with what you are saying...but it also affected the "The Batman" line as well as the DC universe Classics lines. Many of these items were pulled from shelves and those left come up with a "Do Not Resell" notice at the registers. but this is the first time that I heard that they were deemed "too scary!" Seems like "Hot Topic" or Spencer's Gifts would still be carrying them then! Also, I have just SEEN photos of the 2nd wave of MM figures ("Begins" Batman, Scarecrow, and the chase "Nightmare Batman") that were picked up TODAY from..."a certain chain store!"...and these are WAAAY scarier than the Joker! |

I saw an auction on eBay that mentioned it, then pointed to a news article. Here is the text of that article:
COLLECTORS are scrambling to buy a limited edition original Heath Ledger "Joker" which toy maker Mattel has dumped because it's too scary for children. Collider.com's Ryan Brookhart reports today that Mattel won't release the original version of The Joker figurine, based on Heath Ledger's incarnation for Batman: Dark Knight because it is too scary for children.Instead Mattel have "hastily thrown together" a "friendlier" version they can sell to children. What Mattel will sell is a "strange hybrid animated style Joker roughly an inch smaller and in standard blister-style packaging alongside the movie actuate Batman figure," Mr Brookhart says. So, there ya have it. I Googled it, as well, and came up with the same article from different sources. Hmm...'certain chain store'...would this precipitate a stop at World of Wal on my way home.... |
