This one's for JD!
A new carb, msd dist and some other new parts and the 89 fired right up..and shook the walls! My 'econo' radiator hard tubing and some marine hoses kept her cooling right on target. I do like this easy engine access via it's own hood vs the flip front of others..makes life so much simpler. The engine compartment is not at it's pretty stage as of yet but when I'm done I guarantee it'll melt some orbs!

I delegated the red 460 in these previous pics to Slam Bat 3 and ordered a new crate GT40 302 from Ford, ditto for the trans etc.
I figure at less than 3000lbs with this tube chassis build, headers and boost it should run close to high 12's.. not bad for a 19 feet of street driven fibeglass rolling on Radirs.

Thought I'd tackle the hardest part of my 'other' 66 build in steel by forming the hood scoop first...still needs some fine tuning...ie...a little
hammer and dolly work....but no more than 1/16" of filler if any.

Don,
I love all the great things you're doing with Bats these days. Looks great. Is this metal skin just that------a skin over a fiberglass shell, or will it be strictly metal when done? As for the headlight divots, I used to be a proponent of those, but the more I look at newly fashioned Batmobiles, I think the divots just get in the way. Now if you were making the first Futura, of course we'd want those. Who's gonna do the first high end Futura!? I had someone sniffing around to buy my Bat pretty heavily then they sort of vaporized. I envision building a Futura at some point given the current state of the art

I likey a divot.....but honestly how many people would really know if it wasn't there right? In fact I bet most folks looking at a divot car would wonder
if it was a flaw even!
On the other hand.....it isn't the casual car show passer-by who would actually PURCHASE this car from you, and one would HOPE that the eventual buyer would know a thing or two about his Batmobiles (of course some auctions in the past have proven that just because a buyer has the $$, doesn't mean he did ANY research into Batmobiles!) I guess if I were commisioning a car for myself, I'd want divots. If I were Barris back in the day converting the Futura and had a few more weeks lead time, I would have filled them in for the Batmobile. So there ya go Don, I haven't been any help at all flopping back and forth here, in fact by reading this you have wasted time you could have been out in the shop forming the new divots.....I mean, not forming the divots....I mean....er,....umm.....
On a serious note, are you tracing out flat patterns from each steel piece you add to this build, so that you'll have basic templates for future steel Bats and faster assembly time? CHRIS--I am with you on getting a really nice Futura built, it's always been a goal of mine as well, but so far I have decided I need a Batmobile first, then a Futura. Can't afford either one now unfortunately, but it does surprise me a bit nobody has tried a modern Futura yet, plenty of folks DO have the money, and there's at least one builder who would tackle the project if the right customer came along! DON--whaddya think a STEEL FUTURA would go for at auction???
