2009 POCI (Pontiac) Indian Uprising Show in Dayton, Ohio | ||
|
Here's a few pics of my Pontiac-chassis'd replica on display at the Pontiac Nationals held at the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio.
Car will be on display until Saturday around 5:00pm should anyone nearby like to visit; Show is free!! Beauty for me is that I get to "confirm" the myth that the Batmobile was Pontiac based

I love the redline tires - I always thought I would add something like that if I had a 1:1 scale car.

Chris,
Great show in Dayton. Thanks so much for bringing up your car and spending so much time talking about it. Both my kids loved it! And so did I! I am making it my goal to find a copy of that article I told you about! LOL....... Thanks again, Tim |

Bat maintenance | ||

On Sunday I was headed to a 600+ car show when the Bat died suddenly. I rolled off the shoulder of the road into a nearby convenient store to discover an electrical short had occurred at the Alternator. While waiting on my Tonka rescue, there was no shortage of people who gathered to offer assistance to me and just take in the spectacle of a beautiful car that wasn't going to make it to the show. So what do you do when life deals you lemons? Make lemonade! In the hour and a half it took for my brother in law to bring my Tonka to me, I let a ton of people pose either in or next to the car. It was huge fun as I found several people calling OTHER people to let them know "Hey, c'mon down, the Batmobile is broken down over here at UDF (United Dairy Farmers). Tonite's evaluation revealed 2 possible causes for the breakdown: 1: Alternator hot wire lying against a hot chrome plated valve cover melted thru the insulation creating electrical short OR 2: The Alternator internal rectifier was loose and may have allowed too much voltage to run thru the alternator battery terminal to overcome the wire. Here's the photos just the same: |

Great Pics Chris! | ||

Sometimes I find the non car show people more fun the the car show types 'cause it's more of a surprise for them.

Jeez, not fun for you, but what a pleasant surprise for them.

I have seen a few replica's and yours is by far one of the best. Bummer about the break down.

One thing is to be sure--------The Barris Batmobile will ALWAYS be the original.
The rest are all otherwise very cumbersome replicas at times. If you think of your Batmobile replica as a "glorified kit car" it helps you keep perspective that much like any other car on the road, they too have maintenance woes of their own. Right now I still need to replace one flasher for the sidelights and constant detailing-------black shows everything!

The latest........ | ||
|
The latest repair issue for my car proved to be an alternator internal rectifier that came loose inside the alternator and fell down onto the stator
(armature?) and created an overheat surge that melted the wiring. New Alternator and double-checked tightly secure rectifier resolved the problem.
One other consequence that happened when the Bat was being loaded from the breakdown location is one of the boards I use to drive the car onto my Tonka shot out from the rear tire and broke a 3" section of fiberglass on the left underside of my "rear bumper" area in a not-so-visible area that I will have to effect repairs to at some point. Today, the shop who painted my engine for me at no charge, held their 8th annual car show in which I took a nice award of distinction. Plenty of the carshows I attend have a split the pot, but today they did something I hadn't seen before that I thought was worthy of sharing. For this split the pot, you could purchase 1 ticket for $1 dollar or 6 tickets for $5 dollars. For $20 dollars, you can pick any show car on the show field and get the "length of that car" in tickets for your money. As you might anticipate, my car proved to be among the longest so all day long the ticket sellers were lining people next to my car to measure out their ticket count. The pot was $500.00 so the lucky winner got $250.00. No word on if they had the "Bat length" of tickets or not
Sorry I don't have any better pic' than that of my cell phone: |

That's really a nifty trophy they have! One of very few a guy would be proud to display in his garage!
Sorry to hear about the new damage, especially so soon after getting the whole car redone. Might need to sell this one and build another----it might be cursed!
