Congrats on buying it. I assume you recently picked it up? Related links on this/your car are here.

What are your plans for the car? Private? Promotions? Museum?
What ever you decide, again--congratulations. |

Wow very nice new pictures of the Futura replica, thanks for sharing them! And congrats on getting the car. many of us here are big fans of the Futura as well
as the Batmobile, and would really enjoy seeing much more of this replica.
I am curious what you meant when you said this was the only "certified" copy that runs, "certified" in what way? And hopefully I don't sound too nit-picky, but all of this is incorrect and was actually Ford motor company: "In 1955, a guy from Italy took a 1955 Lincoln and made a concept car called the 1955 Lincoln Futura. He tried to get this car to catch on, but it never did" I only bring it up because we have experienced many buyers of Batmobile replicas who were told incorrect info about the cars. Granted that wouldn't change anything about this Futura, but I am sure MANY people will ask about it's history while you own it, and you want to have it right!
Did you also know this car was used in an episode of the TV show "Viper", it was a really neat way to use the car I thought! I hope we get to see much more of it! |

I heard the guy from Italy is the one who had made the original and Ford like sponsored it or had him make it.

We are not going to promote it or anything, just another car to have in the collection. We will probably sell it in a year or so.

By certified I mean, that George Barris said it was ok and let Bob make a mold off the original Batmobile, to my understandings, the first batmobile is actualy
the first Fututa.

Hey thanks for the added info!
You are correct the #1 Batmobile is/was the original Futura Ford designed and had Ghia build from Ford's full size clay models. click HERE for the real Futura history, it is well documented and known, it will come in handy weather you keep the car or sell it as you mentioned! (it's an easy and fast read, with pictures to back it all up! )

oh! Thanks, that website says that the replica was built in the 90's... but judging by the shape of the interior, it seems to be built in the late 70's
or early 80's. Does anyone know when it was built?

Somebody else will have to chime in on when Bob Butts originally made that replica Futura, but it probably was the 90's based on his history with
Batmobiles and such. I don't think he invested much time or money in the interior or the trim since so much of it would have needed a lot of man hours, and
then much of it would have to be chromed, so he just painted things silver. That might explain the dated look to parts of the car?
Did you notice in this picture the car early on actually had a Batmobile hood (full length hood scoop instead of the Futura short/stubby hood bump), most folks miss that detail when they see this pic!

Turn Signals | ||

Bob also kept the Batmobile location of the park lamps/turn signals in the front, instead of moving them into the triangular portions of the front grilles.

So, are you saying what we have is or isn't Bob Butts?
And the middle part of the dome was lost, according to the guy we bought it from. |

Mark Racop |
Oh, yes! | ||
|
Most certainly your car is a Bob Butts replica. To the best of my knowledge, he's the only one to ever make a full-sized replica of the Futura.
The comment about the hood was that he originally made a Bat modified hood, but later changed it to make it more accurate. The comment about the turn
indicator lights was that he didn't install them in the correct location (but I understand why he didn't do it either!).

I agree with Mark, your car is the Bob Butt's replica and I also agree it is the only "known & completed" Futura replca out there.
There are at least 3 UN-completed Futura replicas I have seen pictures of over the years, and there's an old one off kit car that clearly was inspired by the Futura, but to date I have never seen a finished one yet other than the one you own and showed in your pics at the top of this post. As nice as Mr. Butts made that replica, it still needed a LOT more work to be close to an exact replica, and that's why there are a few details that aren't correct to the original. Even with the inaccurate items and some things not taken to the top level, it still stands as the FINEST Futura replica in existance, and as I said the ONLY one any of us are aware of that's finished! I wish I had the $$ when that auction came up, it's a neat car!

Ohh! Good! But yeah, when I was looking at pictures of the original Futura, the interior of ours is a lot different.

On the dash of ours, there are gauges, but the pictures that where taken in the 90's and those pictures in the newspaper article don't have them

We'd love to see some detailed pics of the interior, under the hood, door jamb areas etc. if you feel like posting more pics!

With limited photos to reference, the interior upgrades I've notice since initial build, the center steering wheel hub gauge was changed, air
conditioning/air vents installed at some point (can't really tell if they are original by Bob B. or later?), the last owners upgrades, AIR RIDE gauges in
dash, OIL-VOLT-WATER gauges installed on dash, a leather/ette shift boot added, loss of center canopy section. You really have to look into getting this
replaced!

Welcome to the board Sir!
More photos of the interior & engine please. Not to be rude, but can you give us an approximation on what you had to pay to get it? (We've seen pricing all over the radar when it was being marketed). Congrats to you. You're officially in a very unique club now
