2010 Danbury Mint 1966 Batmobile |
Lead | |
|
Now that it seems like licensing for the 1966 Batmobile is possible via Hot Wheels, DCDirect, and Polar Lights, I am predicting that Danbury Mint will release
a 1/25 scale version, but likely without figures, but it will have Batrays painted. In a perfect world, Corgi will also round out their Batmobile offering with
1/43 and 1/24 diecast models, along with a Batboatan and sibce they already produce the Bell Helicopter, they can produce a batcopter in 1/48 and 1/72 scale
(that's the standard scale of their Bell Copters). You read it hear first.

But, time is on our side. Who knows what might happen eventually (at least let's hope so). Since Mattel did such a mediocre job on their cars, it leaves
the door open for other down the road to do a serious job on it.

If...IF... Danbury or anyone else gets licensing, my question is how accurate will the body be? Because I doubt every corporation after Mattel will get the
same access to laser scan the #1 as Mattel did, so in a way Mattel set the bar pretty high for the body.
I guess though that any future company could scan the Mattel body and go from there if they wanted to. And there are certainly a million other details that could be improved. I'm all for it though, can't seem to own enough Batmobiles!! |

I would say any of the larger, more well known model car companies have access or own their own laser scanning equipment. If they can't get access (if they
pay for rights again to Barris, I don't think he would refuse the additional $$), they always have the Mattel tooling to start from. If the Mattel is a
dead-nuts copy, then who could complain if someone else also got their model correct. Models companies have always used other companies models as reference for
their models. Some are just more blatant about outright copying.

I am hoping danbury does get a chance to make the Batmobile. I have a few cars from them and I have yet to be disappointed on the workmanship. un-like
Hotwheels.

I wonder if they ever built a prototype?

I don't know how many were made... | ||

...but I do know there were several.

Any photos? Any idea whose "hands" they fell into?

I'd like to see proof that the Danbury Mint acually did a TV 1966 Batmobile prototype.

Sadly... | ||

...As I were told by my Danbury contact, the few prototypes were either taken home by the designers or destroyed. As far as "proof" is concerned I
have none...just her word. I personally would lik to see one myself as "proof".
